Malaysia is to import a pair of specially trained dogs to detect pirated DVDs. The two dogs, from Northern Ireland, are trained to smell the chemicals that are used in DVD production.
They dogs can’t tell pirated from legitimate DVDs, but they have been trained to alert authorities to large stashes of discs in luggage and cargo. They are claimed to be the world's first permanent canine national anti-piracy unit. –Jack Handley

Because China is still blocking Jet Airways’ plans to fly to the US via Shanghai, Jet is considering services via Hong Kong.
India’s Aviation Ministry has invited the Chinese to make a decision on the issue by March 21.
Jet is said to be keen on starting flights to the US west coast via southeast Asia as soon as possible, and if China does not relent, it may launch a Mumbai-Hong Kong-San Francisco service.

From March 30 this year, Lufthansa Cargo will take over marketing for its subsidiary Jade Cargo International on routes from Europe to Asia. The Blocked Space Agreement (BSA) will apply to all Jade Cargo International's ex-Europe routes and also take in the marketing and sales previously covered by Lufthansa subsidiary Swiss WorldCargo.

LAN Cargo has promoted Federico Germani to chief operating officer. Germani, based at Miami International Airport, is responsible for optimising the efficiency and operating performance of the company, including managing cargo-related airport operations, ensuring the network efficiency of the freighter fleet and optimising the utilisation of belly and freighter capacity throughout the network. He has more than 15 years' experience in international business and worked with IBM, Goldman Sachs and McKinsey prior to joining LAN. Germani most recently was senior vice president for the carrier’s global operations.

Customs issues trans-shipment cargo guidelines

Australian Customs has compiled guidelines to define the reporting requirements for trans-shipment cargo through Australia. The document provides procedural guidelines for the handling and reporting of trans-shipment cargo when changes are made to the character of the cargo, or it moves from the place of discharge, or it is incorrectly reported.  It addresses the different types of circumstances where cargo may be trans-shipped.

Delta Air lines has taken delivery of its first B777-200LR (Long Range) aircraft; a second is due for delivery later this month. They were selected partly for their cargo-carrying capacity and will be used on the airline’s longest run, New York, USA-Mumbai, India.
