Cambodian aircargo slumps

Cambodian firms report air-freight volumes dropped 40 to 50 per cent in January compared to the same month in 2008.  Bangkok Airways said its Cambodian air cargo volumes were down about 34 per cent at the end of January compared to 2008, with revenue down 40 per cent.

New Zealand’s Auckland International Airport says it still should make a profit in the NZ$100 million to NZ$110 million range for the full year, despite a drop in international passenger numbers.  It produced an 8.3 per cent rise in earnings for the half-year to December; the NZ$51.6 million profit was achieved on turnover of NZ$184 million.

Australian budget airline Virgin Blue may shed as many as 400 jobs when it cuts eight per cent of its aircraft capacity - up to five aircraft - from its fleet in May, but it says any involuntary redundancies will be a last resort. Senior management will take 20 - 30 cent pay cuts.

Binding offer for Alitalia Cargo

Italy’s Alitalia Cargo, a subsidiary of the country’s former national carrier and Europe’s seventh-largest air freight operator last year, may be sold to Cargoitalia, a private Italian all-cargo carrier that has made a binding offer of EUR14.5 million for the company’s five MD-11 freighters.
