Agility targets further expansion in Australian region

Following its takeover of LEP International Pty Ltd in Australia and LEP International (NZ) Ltd, Agility has signalled it intends to further expand in Australia, writes Jenny Burns.

Agility had had an association with LEP International for a number of years before it purchased the remaining LEP shares from Main Freight for AU$65 million as part of a move to further strengthen its growing network. Agility also recently spent HK$100 million expanding its Asia network -- and more acquisitions are planned.

Record profit for Cathay Pacific but cargo weaker

Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific Airways has reported a profit attributable to shareholders of HK$2,581 million in its 2007 Interim Results -- up 54.7 per cent on the HK$1,668 million reported in 2006 and a record for the Group. The result was largely driven by strong demand and rising yields on the passenger side of the operation.
