The Australian Government will extend checked bag screening to 26 regional airports. Australia's 11 major airports already screen the checked baggage of all international passengers, and these airports will also screen the checked baggage of their domestic passengers from 01 August.

Government figures reflect softening market for outbound air freight

The lastest figures from the Australian Bureau of Transport and Regional Economics (BTRE) reportĀ  -International Scheduled Air Transport 2006 - shows international air freight in 2006 grew by 5.3 per cent compared with 2005 to 746,000 tonnes. Inbound freight increased by 6.3 per cent, while outbound freight increased by 4.0 per cent over the preceding year.
