Lufthansa not to renew freighter contract

Lufthansa Cargo will charter an additional MD-11 freighter from World Airways from 01 July. The US charter company is already operating two MD-11 freighters for Lufthansa Cargo. The contract on three B747-200F aircraft chartered from Air Atlanta Icelandic expires on 30 June and is not being renewed.

Cathay Pacific Airways (CX) traffic figures for April 2007 show the combined Cathay Pacific/Dragonair passenger load factor rising above 80 per cent for the first time this year, spurred by the long Ching Ming and Easter holiday in Hong Kong early in the month. Cargo was a different story however, with the cargo load factor slipping almost five percentage points as the downturn in the market continued.

Singapore Airlines reported a record 18.346 million passengers in financial year 2006-07.  This figure represents a 7.9 per cent increase on the previous year’s number of 16.995 million. Carriage of passengers (measured in revenue passenger kilometres) grew 7.7 per cent, against capacity growth (in available seat kilometres) of 2.8 per cent.  As a result, passenger load factor for the full year rose 3.6 percentage points to 79.2 per cent.

The Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) member airlines carried a total of 11.9 million international passengers in March 2007, an increase of 4.2 per cent over the corresponding period last year. International passenger traffic in RPK terms grew by 3.8 per cent year-on-year, while the passenger load factor improved by 3.3 percentage points to 77.3 per cent on a slight capacity reduction of 0.5 per cent. International freight traffic declined by 3.8 per cent in Freight Tonne Kilometre (FTK) terms. The cargo load factor fell 3.5 points to 66.0per cent, with capacity up by 1.3 per cent compared to the same month last year.
