German rail operator Deutsche Bahn has confirmed a plan for express container trains to snatch 20 per cent of Chinese air freight volumes (at today's levels). As detailed (Aircargo Asia-Pacific web, Tuesday 29 January), DB recently ran a test train from Beijing to Hamburg that took just 15 days to arrive.

IATA reports slower air freight growth for 2007

International air freight traffic grew by 4.3 per cent in 2007 according to the latest figures from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).  Its full-year traffic results for 2007 show air freight was down slightly from 2006's growth of 4.6 per cent and much lower than the 7-8 per cent growth trend of recent years.
