Air China says it plans a "wide-ranging proposal" to link with Shanghai-based China Eastern Airlines (CEA), but as part of a limiting clause in CEA’s failed attempt to sell a stake to Singapore Airlines/Temasek, CEA is barred from accepting airline deals until at least August 2008.

Etihad carries more air freight

Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airlines' cargo division - Crystal Cargo - continued to expand rapidly during 2007, with the number of cargo shipments handled reportedly up more than 43 per cent compared to 2006. In the 12 month period, the amount of cargo tonnes transported increased more than 32 per cent to 175,000 tonnes. The division also increased main deck cargo capacity, adding an MD11 freighter aircraft to its fleet during the year.

Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) has promoted Pablo Garcia to senior vice president Worldwide Sales. He was previously senior vice president business development Europe for WFS. Based in Spain and reporting to Olivier Bijaoui, president and chief executive of WFS, he will lead the sales and business development management of the group. Worldwide Flight Services claims to be the world’s largest cargo handler, handling more than 3.5 million tonnes of cargo per annum. Its ground handling business provides ramp services, baggage handling and processing services for more than 50 million passengers a year at some 50 airports globally.

Airline Business has added Oman Air Cargo as a UK client of its cargo gsa division and will handle cargo sales and marketing, customer service and reservations for the airline.
Oman Air chief executive officer Ziad Karim Al Haremi said a new daily service from London to Muscat would “provide customers flexibility not currently available through any other service provider in Oman.” –Jack Handley
